Movie Review: 'Nail Polish' is not what you thought it would be

This is the movie review of the latest release of the week called “Nail polish”. It stars Arjun Rampal and Manav Kaul in the lead roles. The movie’s genre is mystery and thriller which is one of my favorites. I love watching films/web series with courtroom dramas and this one has that too. On that note let's see how do I find it and if it’s worth your time or not.

The story of Nail Polish

The story explores multiple personality disorders i.e. one person having multiple personalities. One personality does the crime and the other is innocent (similar to a movie called ‘Deewangi’ starring Ajay Devgan). It's not a psychological thriller but it's more of a crime thriller. Let me know in the comments if you found it something different from what I think of it.

The Bad

Coming to the underwhelming parts, so there are certain things which I liked and didn't like about the movie.

The execution let down the brilliantly woven story

The first thing that I didn't like was the execution of the story. Some scenes were not justified. What I mean is that the story is really great but the execution failed to create a deep impact.

Enough of the gruesome visuals

My second problem with the film was its length. Some parts could have been chopped off easily but they have kept it. Some of it served no purpose to the story. A few sequences involving children and their abuse are the ones which I didn’t like. It's a fashion for the OTT creators to show disturbing visuals on the screen. Without the visuals, I understand that the effect would be a little lesser but I think it's fine. You don't need to show deformed dead bodies and their close-ups flashing to the audience. I have seen too many web series doing that( Asur and the likes).

The good

Now moving to the good part of it which is that it leaves the audience to think about what actually happened. That's a sign of a good thriller. We kinda guess it completely by the end but yes instead of spoon-feeding they chose to remain silent. I liked that decision.

The acting performances of this web series are top-notch. Arjun Rampal has returned to the screen after a very long time and he has done a very wonderful job as the lawyer. He plays the defense lawyer for Manav Kaul who is the accused. Manav Kaul and Arjun both have great chemistry. The acting performance by Manav Kaul deserves special mention. He has attempted something which I have never seen any actor do before. I really enjoyed his performance thoroughly.

Fun Fact:  The other actors have also done a great job including the judge and the guy who plays the public prosecutor. Also, we see yesteryears actress Madhoo in the show. Although her part was not that relevant to the story still it's good to see some old faces back these days in OTT platforms.

Our Verdict:

Overall, if you are a fan of the thriller and Mystery genre then I think you should try watching nail polish. It's available on zee5. You won't be disappointed.

My rating for this movie will be two and a half out of 5.
